These bulletins can be produced on your company letterhead and are not longer than one page to keep the readers attention. Each bulletin is to be numbered using this method: #1/2001 for the first bulletin in 2001 or #3/2001 for the third bulletin in 2001. This method will assist your drivers in filing these important safety messages in a binder and assure them that they did not miss receiving a bulletin, which could happen very easily by the nature of their job. Your driver's office is their tractor and it's located all over the country. Many times they may not physically be in your terminal for weeks at a time so you may find it necessary to mail your safety bulletins for distribution. When they file your bulletin #7/2001, they will make sure that their Safety Bulletin Binder is current and complete because they will see the proceeding bulletin #6/2001. This binder will serve as a reference and promote consistency in your Safety Department. If you employ Trainers, they will use this binder as a training tool for their new students because their students can read it while detained at a shipper or receiver or in the jump seat. This further opens the important lines of communication between the Trainer and Trainee.

Once the program is in place you should notify your Insurance Carrier because they will welcome your Company's heightened awareness to promote safety and reduce incidents that could result in reduced premiums at the time of policy renewal. Based on your working relationship with your Insurance Agent, have him/her request this and then it can be offset from your Premiums or reimbursed on a monthly or quarterly basis. Your insurance carrier will recognize your proactive preconditioning of your drivers and solidify your partnership.
